Cal Staggers married Rebecca in 1992, and they’ve been parents of William Grady since 1997. Cal G. Staggers was born in 1963 in Marshall, Texas to Grady O. Staggers and Pauline J. Staggers, now Pauline J. Hitt. He graduated from Marshall High School, where he competed on the school’s golf team, was editor for the annual year book, sang in the Marshall High School Chorus, and was selected by faculty to study at Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C.. During his high school years, he worked at Staggers Oil Co., First National Bank of Marshall, Texas, and Caddo Savings & Loan Association; and was a member of and sang in the choir for First Christian Church.
After graduating from high school in 1981, Cal Staggers attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas; which was founded in 1845 by the Republic of Texas and is the oldest institution of higher education in the State. At Baylor, Cal Staggers earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a major concentration in Accounting and with a minor concentration in Entrepreneurship, and earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
While at Baylor, Cal Staggers was a member of the Baylor University Choir, the Baylor University Men’s Chorus; selected by the Hankamer School of Business faculty for membership in the National Honorary and Professional Management Fraternity of Sigma Iota Epsilon; and a member of the social fraternity of Sigma Phi Epsilon, for which Cal G. Staggers served as Chaplain and Leadership Board member.
During his years in Waco, Cal Staggers was an active member of and sang in the choir for Central Christian Church; and sang for the Waco Civic Chorus.
Before finishing Baylor’s undergraduate studies in 1985, Cal Staggers passed the State of Texas Certified Public Accountancy exam; and after graduation, he worked for the Dallas, Texas office of Arthur Andersen – Audit Division, performing accounting and auditing services in the banking, manufacturing, hospitality, consulting, financial bonding and wholesale industries.
While living in Dallas, Texas, Cal Staggers was a member of and sang for Northwest Christian Church; and was a member of Northway Bible Church.
After gaining the work experience required for a State of Texas CPA license, Cal Staggers returned to Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business and, in 1987, obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
Immediately afterward, Cal Staggers returned to his hometown of Marshall, Texas to work at the family business of Staggers Oil Company, a wholesale and retail distributor of Texaco products that had its beginnings in the early 1900s, and which was assumed by the Staggers family in 1969.
Upon Cal Staggers’ return, Staggers Oil Co. discontinued supplying non-owned retail outlets in order to rebuild and grow its retail business, multiplying its six local stores to a chain of redesigned Texaco Day&Night convenience stores and truck stops along a 200-mile stretch of Interstate Highway I-20 and towns from east of Dallas, Texas to mid-Louisiana.
Cal Staggers served as board member of the National Association of Texaco Truck Stops, as board member of the Marshall Economic Development Corporation, and as board member and President of Dallas Caddo Club – the oldest chartered hunting and fishing club in the State of Texas.
Believers Bible Fellowship, subsequently renamed Cypress Valley Bible Church, became Cal Staggers’ church home upon his return to Marshall, and for which he served on its leadership board and for which over 20 years he sang with the church’s praise team.
In 2001, the Dallas, Texas distributor for Texaco bought the real estate, wholesale and retail operations of Staggers Oil Co.
Shortly thereafter, Cal Staggers moved his business offices to Cypress Valley Bible Church and volunteered as a part-time administrator until 2011.
Cal Staggers continues his business involvement with Kingstree Ranch, a working cattle ranch (KingstreeRanch.us); with Kingstree Ranch Inc., an oil & gas operator; with Day & Night Advertising, an outdoor advertisement company; and with consulting for businesses in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, Utah and Quebec.
